How we can help your child with exam preparation

Whether you are looking for help to prepare you child for an Entrance Exam to get a coveted place at one of the area's outstanding Grammar or Independent Schools, or looking for some support with SATs or GCSE preparation, we can help.

We provide test and exam preparation, tuition, and support in a quiet, relaxed yet professional environment. Your son or daughter will receive the support they need via an individually tailored tuition programme delivered by skilled, qualified and experienced teachers using the highly regarded Kip McGrath exam preparation methods.

Which exams can we help with?

SATs

Ensure your child is on track to their academic target levels with a programme of classroom based tuition to broaden and deepen their understanding of the key subjects of English, Maths and Science AND improve their overall confidence.

Our programmes are tailored to your child’s learning requirements AND their school syllabus. Our proven tutoring programme will leave them better prepared and more confident when the time comes for their knowledge to be tested.

We use an individually tailored programme, which proceeds at the pace your child needs to ensure a firm grasp of each subject matter. We aim to improve performance and confidence in core subjects rather than work to the exam as this aids your child’s overall performance when they are tested in school.

GCSEs

Our experienced tutors can assist a student struggling to absorb the breadth of content required of today’s GCSE syllabus, or extend the learning of a high achiever through their own, greatly enhanced subject knowledge.

Covering all subjects and with a range of vocational experiences to enhance academic learning, we will tailor your child’s programme to meet their specific needs. We develop your child in the key areas required and use past papers to pick up on gaps and provide additional exam practice.

11+ ISEB Common Entrance Exam, and Independent Schools Entrance exams

Certain secondary schools in Bristol and the surrounding areas will require your child to take the Eleven Plus (11+ ISEB Common Entrance Exam) or a school set entrance exam before offering your son or daughter a place.

These schools are usually grammar schools or private schools. The exam will take place during the your child’s final year in primary school.

Bristol’s Independent schools set their entrance exams in January of year 6. The tests are usually administered by LA (Local Authority) or the secondary school itself. The Exam can include one or more of the following:

  • Verbal reasoning tests
  • Non-verbal reasoning tests
  • Mathematics tests
  • English tests

Your child will also have to undergo an interview which our tutors are trained to help him or her prepare for.

Our entrance exam tutors can provide test-specific preparation for admission examinations. These exams regularly involve questions that require logical and lateral thinking, very different from anything your child has tried prior to this, and our exam tutoring programme can transform the chances of success for pupils of all abilities.

We will also help to prepare your son or daughter mentally for their entrance test, building their self-assurance so that they are in the best possible position to tackle the admissions exam.

Our FREE assessment will enable you and your child to understand their starting point and us to ensure that your child’s individual English tuition programme will take them from their starting point to the required level of understanding.

Will my child receive 1 to 1 tutoring?

Coming to our centre will provide your son or daughter with the dual benefit of an individual study programme with personal attention, while studying in a small group with a maximum of 5 students.

A personal study programme means the programme is tailored to your child’s specific requirements, while being in a small groups mean sessions are fun and they will develop confidence by being with students with similar needs.

Often, the confidence and support students gain by being in a small group means their performance at school is also improved.

Before my child started with Kip McGrath he was lacking confidence & was 6 months behind in school work. Since going to Kip McGrath he has had a big boost in his confidence & has caught up with his school work.

- Parent
